About the podiatry service
The terms chiropodist and podiatrist are used synonymously. More recently the name podiatrist is more widely used but in the past chiropodist was used.
Both titles are legally protected and to use these titles the person must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) - visit the HCPC website to find out more about the HCPC and to check the registration of any practitioner. The HCPC is the regulatory body for all Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).
All podiatrists working in NHS Highland have one of these recognised qualifications:
- Diploma in Podiatric Medicine DPodM
- BSc Podiatric Medicine
If you seek treatment from a private practitioner it is important that you check for these qualifications. For more information about podiatrists' qualifications and training visit the Royal College of Podiatry website.
The podiatry service does not have a central base in any particular area, and information here is relevant for both children and adults.
