MenB vaccinations for young people

On this page

Following recent outbreaks of meningitis in the UK, the MenB vaccine is being offered to some older teenagers and some new students who are at higher risk of exposure to meningococcal group B bacteria.

This vaccine helps to protect against most strains of meningococcal group B bacteria circulating in the UK.

  • The vaccine is given in two doses - it’s essential to get both doses for protection. The second dose must be given at least 28 days after the first dose.
  • Those who have already received two doses of a MenB vaccine do not need to have another one.

June 2026: Read more at Public Health Scotland about introduction of the MenB vaccine for young people.
