Check that your child is protected.
The MMRV vaccine protects against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chickenpox). These are serious diseases that can be life-threatening.
The MMRV vaccine is now offered as part of the routine childhood immunisation schedule. It replaces the MMR vaccine.
About measles and the MMRV vaccine
We know that an infectious disease such as measles can spread easily in nursery or school settings, especially when pupils are joining nursery or a new school in August, when they’ll be mixing with lots of new children.
The MMRV vaccine is offered free by NHSScotland and is over 95% effective in protecting against measles. Measles can lead to serious and potentially life-threatening complications. This is why it’s important to check your child has had the right number of doses for their age.
It’s also important that your child is vaccinated against measles before you go on holiday as cases of measles in other parts of the UK and abroad are higher than they are in Scotland.
