Urgent care

Urgent care is available at Portree Community Hospital by appointment only during these days and times:

  • 08.30 to 19.30 on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays only

This is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)-led, non-emergency, appointment-based, out-of-hours primary care service and will assess patients who cannot wait until their GP surgery next opens. The last appointment is at 19.30

We do not recommend self-presenting to this service without an appointment.

Know Who To Turn To - anyone requiring urgent care should always call NHS 24 on 111 before attending the urgent care centre. You may be asked to contact 111 to arrange an appointment if appropriate.

You should always call 999 in an emergency. The duty ANP may be off-site carrying out assessments in the community.

About Portree Community Hospital

With nine GP-led inpatient beds, outpatients, podiatry and audiology services, our staff here deliver a high standard of care to a large variety of patients.

As a community hospital service, staff work closely with all members of the Community Health and Social Care services.

More acutely unwell patients are transferred or admitted directly to Broadford Hospital. This may be for local treatment and care or for stabilisation and advanced management prior to onward transfer elsewhere.

The nearest district general hospital - Raigmore Hospital - is 120 miles away, approximately three hours by road ambulance, although air ambulance is used as required. Specialist centres exist in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh, over 200 miles away.

The hospital was built in 1964 and refurbished in 2006.
