About the Service
Occupational Therapists work with the patient to meet the aim of helping them to become as independent as possible in all aspects of their daily life. This may include the recommendation for equipment and/or adaptations in order to enhance an individual’s potential to undertake an activity and promote independent living. However, an Occupational Therapist will also be able to devise an intervention programme to rehabilitate a patient in order to increase their ability to look after themselves.
The assessment undertaken can look at all aspects of a persons life including:
- Their ability to carry out day-to-day activities such as washing and dressing, making a hot drink/food etc...
- Their ability to participate in leisure activities
- Their ability to fulfil the roles and responsibilities that are important to them
- Their ability to engage in work activities including paid and voluntary work if appropriate
