Lynda's story

Running for colleagues, family and patients

Lynda is a Charge Nurse in the Diagnostics and Interventional Radiology Unit at Raigmore Hospital. Every day, she works alongside patients and colleagues who rely on NHS Highland services. But her decision to support NHS Highland was also shaped by more personal experiences.

Over the years, Lynda has seen friends and family benefit from care at Raigmore’s clinical oncology department, including her own mum. More recently, two of her colleagues were treated for breast cancer. These experiences stayed with her and inspired her to take on a major challenge.

In April 2026, Lynda ran the London Marathon to raise funds in aid of NHS Highland.

“I didn’t for one minute expect to raise well over £3,000 when I started,” she said. “I’ve been completely blown away by the support from friends and family.”

Through her fundraising, Lynda chose to support local healthcare services that mean so much to her and those around her. As someone who both works in NHS Highland and has seen loved ones cared for locally, she understands first-hand how important these services are for communities across Highland and Argyll and Bute.

Lynda donated £1,000 directly to NHS Highland Charity, with additional funds used to purchase items to support both patients and staff. Her contribution will greatly enhance the experience of care for people using local services during their cancer care journey.

Charity Lead Officer, Catherine Myles shared “Lynda’s story is a wonderful example of the difference one person can make when they turn personal experience into positive action. Her dedication, both as a member of staff and as a supporter, reflects the compassion we see across NHS Highland every day. We are incredibly grateful for her fundraising and generosity, which will help enhance local care and support for patients, families and colleagues facing a cancer diagnosis.”
