Our charity team

Catherine Myles, Charity Lead Officer

Catherine Myles has been the Lead Officer for the Charity since early 2024. She oversees the daily operation of the charity including fundraising, communications and grant-making to enhance patient and workforce care across the region. Catherine works closely with supporters, clinical teams, and local partners to ensure donations create meaningful improvements for patients, families, and the workforce of NHS Highland.

Louise Alcock, Financial Services Officer

Louise is a vital part of the charity team, carefully overseeing the processing of donations and acting as a first point of contact for grant applicants. As Financial Services Officer, Louise keeps our financial processes running smoothly, supports grant-making, and collaborates with teams across the organisation to ensure every donation makes a meaningful difference.

Our Trustees

We are governed by a Board of Trustees. NHS Highland Charity is regulated under the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978 and the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005.

Under the 1978 Act, NHS Highland is designated as the corporate Trustee of the charity. This means that the Trustees of NHS Highland Charity are the Board Members of NHS Highland. The legislation also ensures that charitable donations intended to support NHS Highland services are held independently by the charity, rather than by the health board itself. As a result, NHS Highland Charity is legally responsible for receiving, managing and distributing charitable funds donated to wards, hospitals, services and programmes across NHS Highland.

In line with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Trustees are responsible for ensuring the charity is well governed, operates in line with its charitable purposes, and manages funds appropriately and transparently. All our charitable funds are completely separate from those held by NHS Highland.

The Board of Trustees is supported in carrying out these responsibilities by the Charitable Funds Committee, which has delegated authority to oversee and progress the charity’s work in delivering its charitable purpose sustainably and effectively.
