Highland Health and Social Care Services

From April 2012 NHS Highland is the Lead Agency in the delivery of adult social care. This opportunity has resulted in reorganisation of services and the establishment of the Highland Health and Social Care Services.

This new organisation, set up under current legislation, brings together for the first time community, primary, social care and acute hospital services, allowing opportunity for significant redesign.

The Services will cover the same area as the Highland Council and forms one of the two operational sub-groups of the Board (the other being Argyll and Bute Community Health Partnership). It is made up of three operational units which are responsible for providing a wide range of acute services, emergency care, primary care, community based health and social care services including:

  • care homes
  • community hospitals
  • community mental health teams
  • community nurses
  • day care services
  • dental services
  • district general hospital
  • handyperson services to support people at home

  • pharmacy
  • physiotherapy
  • podiatry
  • primary care services
  • respite services
  • rural general hospitals
