Volunteer service

On this page

You don't need to be employed by NHS Highland to make a difference.

There are other ways to help, and we'd love to hear from you.

Volunteers continue to make a positive contribution to the care of patients. Their support and dedication is greatly appreciated by all.

About volunteering

The benefits of volunteering

Volunteering can help you to learn new skills, improve your employability, access training opportunities, gain valuable life experience and meet new friends in a supportive environment.

Volunteering and the benefit to others

Volunteering benefits the two groups at the heart of NHS Highland – the patients and the staff who care for them.

The patients benefit from additional one-one attention and increased social interaction.

The staff benefit from the practical support provided by volunteers and the extra time this creates for them to meet the daily demands of their role.

Considering volunteering

If you are interested in supporting others within a care setting, we’d love to hear from you. We have no upper age limit and a minimum age requirement of 16 years of age.

Existing volunteer roles

Examples of roles are:

  • Ward Volunteer
  • Helping Hand Volunteer
  • Mealtime Helper
  • Play Volunteer - Child Unit
  • Volunteer Driver
  • Wayfinding Volunteer

New volunteer roles are always being created.
