From shared stories and songs to arts and crafts, residents at Kintyre Care Centre are enjoying a wide range of intergenerational activities that bring together people of all ages from the local community.
Regular visits from pre-school children offer a simple but powerful reminder of how connection, creativity and shared experiences can make a real difference.
The programme includes regular visits from local nurseries, with children and residents coming together to play games, share stories, take part in arts and crafts and sing songs. The care centre also hosts a monthly playgroup attended by childminders and the children and babies they care for, which has quickly become a firm favourite with residents.
Intergenerational links extend beyond early years, with residents attending cinema visits alongside pupils from Campbeltown Grammar School and taking part in activities with local youth group Youth Impact during school holidays. From bingo sessions to sports days and afternoon teas, the activities offer meaningful opportunities for residents to connect with younger generations.
The activities are being highlighted during Intergenerational Week (24–30 April), which celebrates the benefits of bringing generations together and the positive impact this can have on wellbeing, learning and community spirit.
