Argyll and Bute are proud to announce the official launch of the World Cup Care Home Games 2026, a vibrant and inclusive programme designed to bring together care home residents, staff, families, and communities in a celebration of movement, connection, and wellbeing.
Building on the success of previous initiatives, the 2026 Games will see care homes across Argyll and Bute take part in a series of themed sporting and recreational activities inspired by the spirit of the World Cup. The programme aims to promote physical activity, mental wellbeing, and social engagement among older people, while fostering friendly competition and community pride.
Throughout the year, participating care homes will host their own “mini cup” events, featuring adapted games and activities suitable for all abilities. These will culminate in a celebratory finals event, bringing together residents from across the region.
The initiative is supported by local partners, care providers, and community organisations, all working together to ensure residents remain active, included, and connected.
Mary-Anne Douglas, Argyll and Bute Lead Nurse (Care Homes), said:
“The World Cup Care Home Games 2026 is a fantastic opportunity to bring joy, energy, and togetherness into our care homes. This initiative is about far more than sport – it’s about wellbeing, connection, and making sure every person feels part of something special.
We are incredibly proud of the creativity and commitment shown across our care homes, and we can’t wait to see residents, staff, and families coming together to celebrate."
The Games officially kick off this month, with care homes across Argyll and Bute already preparing their first events.
