This week marked another first for National Treatment Centres across Scotland, with the first Grampian patients being welcomed to NTC Highland ahead of joint surgery.
Staff at the centre also welcomed a team from NHS Grampian on their first visit to the centre. Networked models of care like this will make a big difference to the experiences of patients across the country and staff are very pleased to be working together.
The team, which included their Project Team, the Clinical Lead for Dr Gray’s and the Clinical Lead for Anaesthetics, the Management Team from Surgery and Theatres, and colleagues from Infection Control, the Project Design Team and Finance, were able to share experiences with the Highland team and discuss the good collaboration that has already taken place. This has led to sharing of clinical information and the first patients being treated at the centre.
Gail Little, Staff Nurse at Dr Gray’s Hospital, said: “I am genuinely excited for our patients in Grampian to have their joint replacement surgeries so quickly. This visit allowed me the opportunity to answer questions our patients may have about going through to Inverness for their surgery.”
Donna Smith, Programme Lead - National Treatment Centre for NHS Grampian, said: “So excited about sharing lessons learnt and supporting regional collaboration to help with the development of improved access to elective care across the North of Scotland.”
Helen Robertson, National Treatment Centre – Highland Manager, said: “This week we started welcoming the first Grampian patients to the National Treatment Centre-Highland.
“We were also pleased to be able to welcome colleagues from NHS Grampian to the National Treatment Centre on Thursday and it was good to be able to show the team the centre where patients will receive this life-changing surgery.
“We already have a strong partnership with NHS Grampian and look forward to that continuing as we welcome patients to this state of the art treatment centre.”
