RSV vaccinations
The RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccine is offered to adults at the highest risk of serious illness from RSV infection.
It’s usually given as an injection in your upper arm. You may be able to get the RSV vaccine at the same time as other vaccines like shingles or pneumococcal (PPV).
Respiratory syncytial virus is a common and highly infectious respiratory virus that affects the breathing system. While most RSV infections are usually mild, it can cause severe illness for older adults and in babies under one year of age. For those at greatest risk, RSV can cause pneumonia and bronchiolitis, leading to complications and hospitalisation.

Important: PPV and RSV drop-in clinics - September 2026
Drop-in clinics for pneumococcal (PPV) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccinations will be held at the Inverness Vaccination Centre between 9.00am to 4.00pm (except 12.15pm to 1.00pm) on:
Friday 11 September 2026
Inverness Vaccination Centre is on the upper floor of the Eastgate Shopping Centre, next to the bridge link to Morrisons.
No appointment needed but vaccinations are only available for eligible patients. All attendees will be screened for eligibility on arrival.
Eligibility and appointments
You can get the RSV vaccine if you can answer yes to one of the following questions:
Did you turn 75 years old before 1 August 2026, and you haven’t had your RSV vaccine yet?
Are you turning 75 years old between 1 August 2026 and 31 July 2027?
Do you live in a care home for older adults?
Did you turn 65 before 1 August 2026, and have an eligible health condition?
Are you turning 65 years old between 1 August 2026 and 31 July 2027 and have an eligible health condition?
The RSV vaccine is also offered during pregnancy, regardless of age - from 28 weeks of pregnancy. Pregnant women are encouraged to speak to their midwife about getting the vaccine from 28 weeks of their pregnancy.

NHS Highland will contact you when it’s time to get the vaccine - please wait to be contacted with an appointment. Get help by phone or email with appointments if you need it.
If you hold Power of Attorney (POA) for an adult with incapacity please bring the POA documentation to vaccination appointments. Without this we may not be able to vaccinate due to lack of valid consent.
