Medical Education

Meet the team in charge of medical education, training the doctors of tomorrow.

About medical education at NHS Highland

NHS Highland, under the leadership of the Board Medical Director and Director of Medical Education, supports a major commitment to medical education from undergraduate to postgraduate, and supporting those who deliver teaching and training to medical students, foundation doctors and other trainees.

There is a wealth of learning opportunities available within primary and secondary care throughout the Highland and Argyll and Bute health and social care partnership areas. We enjoy training the doctors of tomorrow and take pride in the fact that some decide to come back during the undergraduate and postgraduate education, and return to work in Highland.

Dr Helen Freeman is our Director of Medical Education (Highland). We recognised several years ago that high quality medical education is linked to high-quality patient care. A programme of investment in job plans across undergraduate and postgraduate roles, locally delivered faculty development and biannual medical education conferences have seen NHS Highland become one of the highest rated health boards in Scotland for medical education.
