Midwifery course opportunity for registered nurses

07th September 2022

Registered nurses in the UK are being offered the opportunity to apply for a Postgraduate Course in Midwifery being run by Napier University in Edinburgh.

This will not only see them being paid at band 5 level while training but will also have a guaranteed job in NHS Highland upon graduation.

The course, which starts in January 2023, is open to adult nurses registered with the NMC.

In NHS Highland, we are willing to consider applications from nurses elsewhere in the UK who are willing to relocate to the area during the programme and for two years post qualification.

Karen King, Associate Midwifery Director for NHS Highland, said:

"Highland is an amazing place to live and work and there are great opportunities for you to progress your career.

"The area offers something for everyone whether you are looking to live in a more urban area or prefer remote and rural, we have both. Our small teams allow strong relationships to build and you can work in community, hospital or across both settings. We have a range of community settings across the area and our consultant unit not only allows you to enjoy the excitement of an acute setting but also that personal touch that we know many look for.

"We have vision, drive, ambition and a passion for midwifery and midwifery led care. This is the ideal opportunity for you if you have that same passion and are looking for a change in direction and a new career path.

"Highland could become your new home – it is easier than you think, Please get in touch if this is of interest to you."

The course will be 50% theoretical and 50% practical. It aims to prepare you for practice as an accountable and autonomous midwife with a focus on mastering the knowledge and skills required to provide safe and effective midwifery care to women and their families, the interpersonal and cultural competence required for effective and collaborative working, and developing self-capability in a midwifery leadership context, particularly in relation to quality, safety, and efficacy.
