Support for individuals

Our services are here to promote the health and well-being of individuals in Highland and, where necessary, provide them with the care and support they require to have ordinary lives.

About support

We seek to balance managing risks for individuals with encouraging their self-determination and promoting social welfare.

Adults can require social care support for a number of different reasons.  They can face barriers to having an ordinary life from a variety of different issues and situations arising from:

  • older age and infirmity
  • mental health issues
  • learning disabilities and autism
  • other issues affecting their capacity
  • being an unpaid carer

The way we deliver adult social care in Highland is as self-directed support - formal supports are usually accessed after conversations (outcomes-focused assessments) with workers from our Integrated Teams. If you think your situation means you might need support to live an ordinary life, then you or someone who cares for you may wish to get in touch with one of our Single Points Of Access.
