NHS Highland’s Psychology service is hosting a Psychology Research and Clinical Practice Conference in Inverness this month.
The event, titled Enhancing Practice through Research Innovations: Unlocking our Potential, will showcase and celebrate innovation in evidence-based clinical practice and applied psychological research.
With a programme of events highlighting innovation in mental health practice and service delivery from local clinicians and trainees (past and present), the conference will be welcoming up to 150 attendees allowing national networking and information sharing and access to innovative and up to date research theory and practice.
Dr Allyson Turnbull-Jukes, Director of Psychology for NHS Highland said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming delegates, whether they are attending in person or online, to our Psychology Research and Clinical Practice Conference in Highland.
“We are incredibly fortunate that award-winning world-leading psychological researchers will be joining us to talk on the day.
“Professor Paul Salkovskis, Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford and Director of the Oxford Centre for Psychological Health, is recognised as one of the UK’s leading researchers and experts in clinical psychology and in CBT with highly specialist and extensive expertise in the understanding and development of psychological treatments for anxiety disorders.
“Joining him will be Professor Roz Shafran, Professor Emeritus of Translational Psychology at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health in London. Roz is also a multi-award winning clinical psychologist recognised for her outstanding and exceptional contributions to our field.”
Six local clinicians, from a range of psychological services, will also give talks on the day and 19 posters, created by clinicians from across all our psychology services, will also be showcased demonstrating evidence of innovation in care and psychological health.
Dr Turnbull-Jukes added: “This is an excellent opportunity to showcase the huge amount of work taking place in psychology. It demonstrates our commitment to supporting our communities to develop optimal psychological health promoting the best health opportunities and practices.
“We’re very much looking forward to it and our aim is that this does become an annual learning event.”
The conference will be held on 21 April at UHI House in Inverness.
