Play your part in ensuring the quality and safety of care in Highland

16th April 2024

NHS Highland is seeking to recruit an independent member of the public to the Board’s Clinical Governance Committee.

The local community volunteer will join board members, senior clinicians and managers on the committee to help oversee the board's work in a number of key management and clinical areas.

Alasdair Christie, chair of NHS Highland's Clinical Governance Committee, said: "Clinical governance is at the heart of what we do - it is about ensuring the quality and safety of care and treatment.

"The Clinical Governance Committee acts as the guardian of the quality and safety ambitions contained within NHS Highland's Quality and Patient Safety Framework.

"Hearing the voice of the public in this work is really important and helps us to hear what is important to people who use our services."

We are not looking for experts in health care; in fact quite the opposite. You will be working as part of a team where you can call on expert advice to help you make up your mind on complex issues. People with a wide range of skills and backgrounds could be suitable.

Successful applicants will have the necessary skills and experience to analyse reports and respond to information both in preparation for, and during, meetings.

Independent members are expected to attend six meetings over a 12-month period. Arrangements can be made for people to attend by video conference.

The role is a voluntary post, but NHS Highland will ensure that appropriate travel and accommodation arrangements are made on the member's behalf and any necessary costs are reimbursed.

If you would like to apply, or would like further information on the role of an Independent Member of the committee, please contact NHS Highland's Board Secretary, Ruth Daly, for an application form:

The deadline for completed applications is Friday 17 May 2024 and these should be submitted by email to Ruth Daly or by post to the head office.

The role of the Clinical Governance Committee is to provide oversight of the systems and processes for delivering clinical governance throughout NHS Highland, and to encourage and facilitate appropriate integration. Also to provide assurance to the NHS Highland Board that necessary systems for clinical governance are in place and operating effectively. To monitor performance on clinical governance and service quality against the relevant sections of the Performance Assessment Framework, and to develop a Quality and Clinical Governance Strategy for NHS Highland.
