Education and Advice for Newly Diagnosed Patients

Education should be delivered in a manner that promotes self management and the individual taking responsibility for their health and living with Diabetes.  It is important that right at the start of living with diabetes that we encourage the individual to be an active partner in each consultation and to take responsibility for working to stay healthy.

Diabetic education is an ongoing process that includes the individual and family.
For people in North, Mid and South East CHP’s all newly diagnosed people with diabetes should be provided with a copy of the Diabetes UK magazines 'Diabetes for Beginners' by their GP Practice.

Practices are provided with supplies of these magazines for distribution.  Further supplies can be obtained on request from the Clinical Network Management Office (01463 704600).
