Who do you think we are?

Would you hand over your organisation’s Twitter account to your staff?

That is what NHS Highland is doing in the coming weeks. Under the title of ‘Who do you think we are?’ we are going behind the scenes to capture the wide range of inspirational individuals and professional groups that make caring for people a team effort.

Every week the Tweets will come from different groups of staff who work for NHS Highland. With 12,000 staff, many professional groups and hundreds of roles there is a huge variety of skills and expertise all pulling together to make the NHS the magnificent organisation that it is.

‘Who do you think we are?’ was launched to coincide with Breastfeeding Awareness Week.  NHS Highland Infant Feeding Advisor, Karen Mackay has been Tweeting all the events, local support groups and ways that people have been getting involved and spreading the message.

She said: “I am really excited to use a different approach to raising the profile of breastfeeding awareness. The feedback we are getting from the people who joined in is fantastic. A big ‘thank you’ to those who have come along and to those who have helped us Tweet about it.”

This week the Tweets are coming from the NHS Highland Chaplaincy Team. Derek Brown, Lead Chaplain, said: ‘I am delighted to be taking part. There’s a lot of hard work, dedication and effort across the whole spectrum of care in NHS Highland that most people are unaware of. It’s a great opportunity for us in chaplaincy to show the different ways that we support patients, their families and staff and show how spiritual care is crucial to health care delivery.”

The idea with ‘Who do you think we are?’ is that each member of staff involved will get a chance to share their own thoughts, stories, pictures and any other background information they care to that is somehow linked to their role. Through their Tweets we aim to create interest and arouse curiosity about how the organisation works and the wide range of demands we face on a day-to-day basis from each individuals unique perspective.

The expectation is our staff Tweets will paint a different picture of NHS Highland to that which is usually given and promote the wide range of professional people who work for NHS Highland. It will also help us with our joint working with schools, careers, volunteering and others.
