NHS Highland welcomes Audit Scotland Report

04/12/2008   |  Argyll & Bute; Mid Highland; North Highland; South East Highland

Audit Scotland today (Thursday, 4th December 2008) published its Financial Overview of the NHS in Scotland 2007-08. The report confirms that finances in NHSScotland are generally well managed.

It highlights that NHSScotland has cut its underlying deficit from 92 million pounds to 16 million pounds in 2007-8, with the deficit set to fall to just three million pounds in the current year.

Chief Executive Dr. Roger Gibbins said:

“I welcome this report and its conclusion that NHS finances are generally well managed.  NHS Highland is singled out as a Board more reliant than others on non-recurrent resource meaning that we have to make savings every year to balance the books.  We are committed to tackling this.  Audit Scotland demonstrate that all Boards are entering challenging times and will need to ensure that every pound is wisely spent if we are to continue to modernise and improve the services that we want to provide and our patients expect.  That is why we are looking now at how we provide our services and what changes we can make to ensure they are most efficient and effective, safe and sustainable.”
