Kidney Transplant Roadshow

26/06/2012   |

Patients in Highland who are on the kidney transplant waiting list or who are likely to go onto the list in the near future are being invited to attend a Transplant Roadshow which is coming to Inverness on the 30th of June.

The Transplant Roadshow, which is being run by NHS Lothian, aims to raise awareness of kidney transplantation options. It will provide the opportunity for renal patients and their families to hear about advances in kidney transplantation and in particular the advantages of live kidney donation.

Dr Nicola Joss, Renal Consultant for NHS Highland, will be involved in the Roadshow when it comes to Inverness. She explained that renal patients will hear talks from a local Renal consultant, transplant surgeon, transplant coordinators and from a patient who has been through the transplantation process.

She added that a large part of the day will be spent talking about live donor transplantation. This involves a kidney being donated from a living person, which can produce better outcomes and long term benefits for the patient.

She said: “There will be plenty of opportunities for patients and family members to talk to doctors and transplant coordinators during the Roadshow.

“There have been advances in transplantation in recent years and we want to use this opportunity to raise awareness of what these advances are, and where to find more information.”

The roadshow will be held on 30th June at the Centre for Health Science in Inverness. Patients have been given a personal invitation to attend.
