Over £3000 was raised last year, which helped buy a classroom, teach three teachers, train two health workers and buy 5000 school dinners, as well as other items. Commenting on NHS Highland’s support to the appeal, Malcolm Fleming, Acting Head of Oxfam in Scotland, said:
“I would like to thank NHS Highland staff for their tremendous generosity of spirit by supporting Oxfam Unwrapped.
“Every gift is carefully chosen and selected based on feedback from some of the world’s poorest communities on what is most needed. Presents start from as little as £5 to build a bit of a classroom up to £1700 to build the whole thing. Unwrapped offers a wide range of gifts around livelihoods, clean water and healthcare.
“In getting behind Oxfam Unwrapped NHS Highland staff recognize the importance of healthcare and education to people in the developing world. I would urge everyone in the Highland’s to follow their lead and go to www.oxfamunwrapped.com or to visit their local Oxfam shop.”
Sharon Thomson, a Project Manager in eHealth, was responsible for setting up the project within the eHealth Department two years ago and she’s delighted it has expanded throughout the organisation and is doing so well. She added:
“The amount raised last year was fantastic and we’re aiming to go even further this year. We hope enough will be raised to train teachers and equip schools in Tanzania.
“A huge thank you to everyone who took part last year and to those who are intending to do it this year, the money raised will make a real difference.”
