Raigmore Hospital
Raigmore Hospital in Inverness is the district general hospital for patients in the North, Mid, and South East Community Health Partnership areas. People living in Argyll and Bute receive many of their acute services from neighbouring NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Raigmore Hospital provides acute medical, surgical, maternity, gynaecological and support services together with outreach clinical services at many other locations in the Highlands, and in neighbouring Moray, Orkney and the Western Isles. It also provides laboratory, pharmacy, artificial limbs and appliances and sterile services to other regional users. It receives tertiary referrals in renal medicine and other specialities, offers a breast screening service and acts as host to visiting services such as plastic surgery, neurosurgery and paediatric cardiology.
Raigmore Hospital is one of Scotland’s five recognised cancer centres with radiotherapy, chemotherapy and MRI and CT scanning facilities. The Department of Clinical Oncology at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness provides non-surgical cancer services (mainly radiotherapy and chemotherapy) to the population of the Highland Region, Western Isles and parts of West Grampian, working closely with community (CHP) based specialist cancer staff across the Highlands. There is a purpose designed Macmillan Suite.
There is a General Manager, and Clinical Director who are supported by a Management Team. The management function is further divided into five Directorates, each of which has a Directorate General Manager (DGM), and a Clinical Director.
The Medical Directorate provides a wide range of medical services, including General Medicine, Chest/Communicable Disease, Dermatology, Care of the Elderly, Rehabilitation, Accident and Emergency, Renal Services and a Medical Unit comprising of a six bed Coronary Care Unit and Medical Triage Unit.
The Surgical Directorate provides services across a range of surgical specialities: Operating theatres, Anaesthetics, an eight bed Intensive Care Unit (ITU), General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Ear Nose and Throat Surgery, Day Case Unit, Audiology, Ophthalmology, Orthoptics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics.
The Woman and Child Health Directorate provides services covering Gynaecology, Obstetrics, and Paediatrics, including a Children’s Ward with MacDonald Suite of Family Rooms and a Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). The Birnie Centre on the Raigmore site, contains Child and Family Psychiatry Services.
The Clinical Services and Support Directorate provides a range of clinical and other services to support activity within NHS Highland and to external customers: These include Laboratories, Medical Physics, Radiology, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Occupational Therapy.
The Cancer Services Directorate provides a Breast Service, Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy.
