Our values and objectives

The three aims of Better Health, Better Care and Better Value are closely interlinked. Giving our patients modern, safe, high quality treatments and care means they will have better health as a result. Supporting people to look after their own health or health conditions helps them to keep as well as possible, and to be less reliant on healthcare services. The only way to fund new treatments, services or developments is by reducing the overall cost of services, so every service has to give best value for money to the greatest number of patients.

NHS Highland works to the fundamental values of the NHS. We want your healthcare services to be:

  • Free at the point of care.
  • Safe, so that you are not harmed by healthcare interventions or procedures.
  • Effective, so that you have excellent care from competent staff using up to date clinical practice.
  • Individual to your clinical needs and personal circumstances.
  • Value for money, so that every public pound is spent wisely and gives the greatest benefit to the maximum number of patients.

The Board has developed a “Strategic Framework” which brings together the wide range of strategies, plans and actions through which NHS Highland will deliver our corporate aims of Better Health, Better Care, Better Value.
